More than a brand, Vans is a legend. Born in the Californian atmosphere of the 60s, Vans remains today a brand associated with the beach, surfing and crowded skate parks. Skillful enough to follow the trend and wise enough to stay true to its roots, Vans stays on top and offers countless models of perfectly finished sneakers with eye-catching visuals.
Created by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, Vans became an icon when it was born in 1966. The surf was at its peak and the skate was yet another prototype sport. It was in this creative and sunny context that the Van Doren brothers and their partners created the “Vans #44”, now known as the Authentic. Young, colorful, solid, the sneaker enjoyed immediate success with the younger generation. Evolving as the skateboard expands and becomes more professional, Vans produces boards and sponsors early skate stars: Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta. The public who love sliding sports finds its dedicated model: the Era, designed for sliding with a long row of laces and a high collar protecting the ankles during falls. At the same time, the young people equip themselves with an Eastpak bag to carry their belongings throughout Los Angeles. The ambition is clearly to mark the era. Over the course of new models (Old Skool, Sk8 Hi, Slip-On, Iso, etc.), Vans is diversifying, investing more in sport and adopting a more rock, more in tune with the rebellious state of mind of skateboarders and surfers. The '60s teenage badass never really goes away - so much so that Vans remains an icon today and the unifying brand for skateboarders, surfers, rockers and punks.
The sneaker Vans is disarmingly simple. A non-slip rubber sole and an upper made of three or four pieces... so much ease of customization. Over the years, Vans has released an incredible number of colors, combinations and patterns for their sneakers. Appearing with the Era, in blue and red, the two-tone pattern was a huge success. Innovative at the time, it is now appreciated for its vintage side, especially on the Vans Old Skool. If the solid colors are quite sober, on the other hand the monochrome burgundy or khaki (including laces, eyelets and soles) are rather unexpected! Vans also often plays with materials: suede, leather, chambray are also in the game to vary the trends. For the most original, the Van Doren ranges offer vintage-style floral motifs, perfect for summer; or fall for the famous checkerboard pattern, which was a hit when it was released - and continues today. As if that were not enough, Vans regularly releases limited themed collections (Disney, Nintendo…) which are snapped up at full speed. To complete the skater look, don't forget to put on a raglan t-shirt - totally old school - or a Mitchell and Ness cap.
